Re: [RC] [RC] [RC] GSFTR - Maryben Stover

Pete, you would probably be surprised (or maybe not) that some of the people with the most opinion on this list have not done an endurance ride.  You have to take things with a grain of salt.  I never got any of the rudeness or cold shoulder when I started riding endurance and not since then.  Of course it was over 30 years ago and endurance was a whole different animal.  I did start with an arab that Courtney Hart loaned me because he had just had knee surgery.  However, I did later ride my own horse, a 16 year-old quarter/morgan cross I had bought from a rent string.  Right now, I have 2 arab mares (horrors, mares), a spotted saddle horse and a mustang.  My spotted saddle horse is about 14.1 on a good day and I am a HW, but he did the first 16 rides he attempted (all 50's), some with me on him and some with a junior.  My advice (to people to ask) is ride the horse you have with the tack you are comfortable in.  You can always buy more horses and stuff later, if you decide you like the sport.  Keep it simple...I kind of liked the article about Ja.  I have even been to Tollhouse (where is lives).
