RE: [RC] FW: [RC] GSFTR - Ranelle Rubin

Mike,

When I spoke with Paul, he said he was a very nice guy, helped others, and he felt everyone treated him well. I think the article was just a typical "sensationalism" our American press is so very good at.

While he may have been out to prove his QH's could do what Arabs can, personally, I have no objection to that..alot of folks chose non-Arabs for alot of reasons..and that is certainly one of them.

I think they were trying to burnish his image as a rebel and an outsider. He
certainly makes much of it himself.

That's what I was thinking, Becky. I don't think it was the tats and hat or
the breed of horse that folks were objecting to...if anything at all. If he
felt he was given a cold shoulder, perhaps it was when he was showing off
and standing on the back of his horse?

A big deal is being made about the some of the completers of this ride. To
be sure these horses and the riders did a multiday ride and that's nothing
at which to scoff. I'll be impressed when these folks really get into the
support and do something like start racking up some miles on the same horse
and start managing rides and start taking a leadership role. Folks like
Patti Crawford, Susan Thompson, Bonnie Yoho, Laura Marshall and other
established endurance riders continue to impress me. I'm not impressed by
what a person wears but what they do when they wear it.

The fella that compared us to bike riders showed more contempt for us than
what was reported we showed his friend. There was no example given of what
was said or done to give this rider the impression we didn't like him.

What a sad commentary...the basis of the story was one of prejudice.
Couldn't the reporter find something GOOD to write about?
