[RC] Epics without gaiters - Skyla Stewart

Can the Epics be used without the gaiters? It almost seems the back of the boot is a bit soft (inside), will it work as well as a plain Easyboot? My horse is fine in the Easyboot one's with no heel strap, but I need them on the back feet too, so would like to take the gaiter off my Epics if it won't pose a "boot" use issue?
