[RC] Suicide Race--reply from PRCA - Susan

This is what the PRCA has to say.  I let Ms Compton know what the article on the HSUS said.  She's probably aware of their spin.  At any rate, I'm going to call the number she provided and ask a few more questions...like..."If your daddy were to jump off a bridge because his daddy jumped off the bridge because his daddy jumped off the bridge, would YOU jump too?"

Omak, WA is a native American event separate from the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) sanctioned rodeo.  The PRCA does not sponsor, support nor sanction the Suicide Race.  We do sanction the rodeo held in Omak and PRCA officials enforce our rules regarding the proper care and treatment of livestock during the PRCA sanctioned events at that rodeo.

Any concerns with the Suicide Race, which is organized by the Colville Confederated Tribes,  should be shared directly with the organizers of the event at 509/826-3977 and 509/826-1983.

Thank you for sharing your concern for horses.  On the personal side, I too care a great deal about all animals and how they are treated and feel that there is no excuse for animal abuse.  Our responsibility, as human beings, is to protect the helpless and the innocent in this world.

As the industry leader, the PRCA is committed to promoting the proper care and treatment of the animals used in rodeo.  As an association, the PRCA has been very proactive in establishing rules and regulations governing animal welfare and in creating veterinary advisory groups to assist in the association's efforts in this important area.  The PRCA prides itself on implementing the highest standards for treatment of rodeo livestock in the business, as well as encouraging other rodeo associations to adopt similar standards.

We appreciate hearing from people like you and be assured that I will pass your comments on.

Are you a sponsor of the annual suicide horse race in WA?

I thought surely this was wrong since no real cowboy would ride his horse this way...unless he was running for his life.

Thank you,
