[RC] starting horses late - sherman

I am curious about those of you who would buy an unstarted 7 year old and start riding or working.....how many months or years do you figure in for "legging up", etc.

Sonny was not broke because his owner lost interest, he was one of three horses she had. The horses were being boarded so a little inconvenient too, maybe. She did take care of the horses while he was young and he had been imprinted and handled enough while very young. His ground manners weren’t great when he got exicted or worried. He grew up free roaming, 10 acre minimum pasture size, with a seasonal deep wide creek and a couple other horses to run & play with. I put him under saddle last year, hedid his first 50 last fall, 3 more 50s this year, and then Tevis. He was very fit and athletic when I got him or I would not have done a 50 or 100 so quickly.
