[RC] Santa Fe - Day 4 - Team Estrogen - FXLivestock

Update from Laura Hayes:

Yesterday was a rest day.  Laura ended up at the emergency room because her leg had swelled up and she had a sub dermal infection from a thorn or from stinging nettles.  She is back riding today on antibiotics.  Her leg doesn't hurt when she is in the saddle so that is the good news.  Being a true endurance rider, she made sure her horse was vetted in yesterday for today's ride before going to the hospital.

Today, around 45 horses started in Elkhart, KS.  They did a 50 mile loop in the Cimmaron National Grasslands.  She rode with Diane McSwain today who was riding one of her Spanish Mustangs.  Diane asked if someone could post to the Spanish Mustang list that she is doing great and having a good time.  They came in around 25th today.

The team leading the competition are Team Liberty (she thinks).  They are a team of Oklahoma cowboys riding Quarter Horses. They are new endurance riders.  Laura wanted me to let everyone know that they really exceptional riders and are taking very good care of their horses.  All of the team horses look fabulous.   As far as Laura know, no horses have required treatment.  Today, some of the vet staff changed.  Her husband Mark, an experienced endurance ride vet, started vetting the event.  It seems that this event really is showcasing that all breeds can compete in endurance.

The town of Elkhart provided dinner for the riders, volunteers, staff, and crews.  As part of the dinner, a a speaker provided an interpretive history of the Santa Fe trail that most everyone found interesting.

I apologize to those who have e mailed me privately to find out information on some of the other riders.  Because of Laura's trip to the emergency room, I really didn't get a chance to give her the names.  But, now that she is doing fine I try to get the information requested.

Until the next update.......
