Kathy,

I use Larry's Natural Fly Spray (Concentrate) and carry a small travel spray bottle on my saddle. It is not very strong, and has to be reapplied. I will also carry wipes which are available at the feed stores in case I need extra protection.

I've only been on the section twice, once 2 years ago, again a couple
weeks ago. I was thinking it didn't start until after Cougar Rock, but
now I recall that it started before Cougar Rock, and all the way into
Red Star, and then we seemed "safe" for awhile (probably the flies just
found other horses to bother), then were attacked again for a few of the
miles into Robinson. It's only a fly or two, but they literally stay
with you for miles, constantly attempting to land, and when they do they
really hurt the horse and leave drippy bloody spots. When I rode into
Robinson on my grey, he had about 10 big bloody spots on him. And,
because they horses are so distracted, they don't watch where they're
putting their feet, and my friends horse nearly fell as we were
approaching Elephant's Trunk horses.

Two weeks ago, there was such a big bloody spot on my horse's chest,
that we thought he must have a huge raw spot from the breast collar.
Nope, nothing there after we washed it off. Had to have been a fly bite.
