Re: [RC] Europe rules vs. AERC rules - Sisu West Ranch

Unless I am remembering wrong, neither Israel or Spain have the humidity common in parts of the USA. If endurance takes off in Indonesia, where it is very humid it will be interesting to watch their experience.

I want to state again that I will ride under either rule, and ride the same speed. I just would like to see rule changes, in our already quite safe sport, better justified than this one appears to be.

The thing that has been upsetting me today, is the posts, some of them from people who should know better, that attempt to demonize those who are opposed to the 30 minute rule by lumping them in with those, who many years ago opposed "fit to continue".

This is a common debating technique, I just can't remember the name of this game. It is probable that most of those opposing this rule on this list, were not even riding endurance when "fit to continue" was proposed; therefore, they are not responsible in any way for opposition to "fit to continue". It is also completely unfair to accuse them of being against all progress in our sport, because they want evidence that the change will help. In a democratically run organization, it is the height of arrogance to claim that you do not need to justify your proposals. This is the type of reasoning used by Kings and religious leaders.

Another problem is that the success of one rule change "fit to continue" has no relevance to the present rule change proposal. You can't say that rule change A produced the desired result B therefore rule change C will also produce the desired result B.
