" Vets ALWAYS have the option of a CRI and from what I see they use it when they have any uneasiness at all about a horse's condition. Why are we seeing how many unnecessary requirements we can throw at the vets at a time when they're already short handed due to judging BC as the bulk of the riders come in for completions?

You know exactly which riders you're hoping this will catch. Why
don't you just tell the vets to declare their horses unfit to
continue regardless of pulse (that isn't the only criteria you know)
pull their sorry hides, and let everyone else finish the darned ride,
vet through and go to our trailers without hassle?"

I agree with Angie here. --- I hope this doesn't sound cold-it's not meant to.--- The stats of horse deaths in our sport is pretty darn low compared to other sports & probably even pasture potatoes. The death reports I've read aren't all suggestive of overriding. I guess, what I'm getting at is: will a new rule prevent these deaths, are there more than we know about? Or are we shooting for a perfect 0? Horses die, heck we all will someday. 8 deaths out of 22548 starts;

2 fractures, 1 aneurysm, 4 colics & 1 tie-up.

Would this new rule have prevented any of these? Maybe. Should we penalize the other 22540 starts? Wait, 1 of those horses was not entered in the ride. Yes 1 death at a ride is too many. So is 1 death in the pasture but that's life. If there are problem riders out there & this new rule if for them, do as Angie says & let the vets pull them. It is their perrogitive to do CRI's or set the completion criteria any way they want 'within' 1 hour. (ex. at 1/2 hr or 10 min. or 45min.) Marirose
