Re: [RC] [RC] International - Don Huston

Hi,
I don't have any real answers but maybe a second level of AERC would produce better international teams by changing the focus. Recreational and Competitive, or something. Right now us recreational types with a "to finish is to win" attitude are riding our backyard buddies and really hate to cause them stress (as in push the envelope) and also hate to see someone else do it to their horse, maybe that prevents the competitive ones from reaching full potential. The competitive division riders would be able to race and advise and push each other to higher levels with the goal of winning at FEI (as opposed to just beating up on our backyard buddies) and us recreational types would not have to witness the blood-sweat-&-tears it takes to get to the top. I want no part of being at the top but it is a free country and a winning team like "Crandall & Heraldic" really have my highest admiration whereas what Mathew Mackay-Smith did to WC Freiheit (aka Fred) to get to the top was terrible.

Hi! Most of the riders, I believe, feel just as you. Yes, money helps us all especially our International team, however that's not the core of our problem. If we are going to compete on such a level we must send our best and evidently our best is just not good enough as they are for the most part, riding just as you say.
