RE: [RC] Early training for the trail - Katrina Mosshammer

LOL..We like to use this method too. But our current horses have decided to keep things interesting. When we first started taking the 4yo out on the trail we took my newly acquired 7yo experienced mare with him for that reason. Turns out she's the one who spooks and he's the one that is solid as a rock. LOL...He's so laid back and lazy. Mom calls him doofus.

I like to take my green horses out on the trail with an experienced horse for awhile.  The experienced horse models appropriate trail behavior and provides a sense of security for the younger horse.  This creates a more relaxed atmosphere for those first trips out of the arena.
