[RC] Rain rot remedy AND sun allergies for people? - Karen Everhart

Rain rot -  Here in Kansas, with a herd of 24 horses, and 21 of 23 days of persistent rain, more rainfall in June than in the past 50 years, etc., we now have a bunch of horses with rain rot.  Most have never exhibited a skin disorder prior.  So, we are up to our elbows, treating it early before the scabs and infections develop.  For me, a betadine scrub followed by a fungicide (my favorite is Microtek); any brand should do ya.  I put all my brushes in clean fresh Clorox water after use, perhaps chlorhexadine might be more effective (it does not degrade in dirt) but the Clorox seems to be keeping the grooming supplies crud free.

NOW, my question:  has anyone ever developed a sun allergy?  I have an olive complexion, never had issues with burning AND spend all day every day (when it is not freezing cold) out in the sun.  I have never had to use sun screen (I know I should but never had to) and tend to get very brown, easily.  But, this summer (after all this rain, etc.,) I am now developing a red, itchy rash where there is sun exposure.  I rode for 5 hours yesterday, and afterwards had to take Bendery for the itch (never had any allergies before).  This AM my lower lip was quite swollen.  Then I went out to mow and began to feel the itch, etc.  So, am curious how/when/why something like this develops.  And, how do you deal with it.  It made me crazy to put on a long sleeved shirt and a hat today to mow as it is so hot and humid here.  YUCK!!
