I just listened on the news last evening that while big cities in  the east and central areas have decreased their population by as much as 50% in the last 15 years one gas station stops in Arizona, Colorado, Wyoming have increased their census by as much as 75% in 15 years.  This does not apply to cities on the west coast.

Not so.  The populated areas are just becoming more concentrated.  Many areas of our own country in particular used to have people in them and don't anymore.  Areas that now have wilderness designations used to contain thriving communities.  The cities keep getting bigger--but people keep fleeing the rural areas.

Except that nature keeps getting smaller and the developed sphere keeps getting bigger.
