re: [RC] Ethanol from switchgrass? - Sunnyland

From: Mary Howell <mary.howell@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx>
  - Subject: [RC]   Ethanol from switchgrass?
>>  A Northern Virginia politician recently.... said using corn to make
ethanol is inefficient and mentioned switchgrass as a better crop, producing
"up to 1,000 gallons of ethanol per acre, with the residue used as biomass
in methane generators to produce electricity."
Anyone ever heard of this stuff? Is it like wheat?>>

Checkout this report from the VIRGINIA BIO-FUEL CONFERENCE    http://www.ppvir.org/pdf/Prospectus.pdf    I found it very informative.  The distinction between "cellulosic ethanol" where more components of the plant are utilized than in traditional corn-based ethanol manufacturing whare only the starchy corn kernel is used.  .  Kathleen
