RE: [RC] - Smith, Dave

Well, thank you, but I do apologize if Angie or anyone else thinks I was
attacking her personally. But I don't apologize for my opinion. And I
disagree with those who suggest this is a topic unfit for Ridecamp. The
cost of fuel affects each of us who has ever hooks a horse trailer to a
truck; ever looks at a ride calendar to determine which ride we can
afford to travel to or simply has to dig deeper in our pocketbooks to
pay for our horse feed. Indeed, unlike laminitis, or torn hip muscles,
the cost of fuel is the one problem confronting every one of us each day
of the week. I also disagree with those who say we can do nothing about
it, so why discuss it? That we are mere corks caught up in the stream of
energy politics. That we are victims of diminishing resources. Well, I'm
no victim. I believe we can -- and should -- do something about this
growing problem. And a good place to start is to begin to really look
at the people we elect to Congress and to our state houses and examine
what are the intended and unintended consequences of electing them. No
longer should they get our vote simply because they claim to be
"pro-environment." No longer should we elect them simply because the
Sierra Club or some other "environmental" group says we should. We need
to take our role as citizens more seriously and really look at these
people, not just their 20-second sound bite. Well I've pretty much said
my piece and now I will get off this topic since it apparently makes
some people uncomfortable. But that discomfort will be nothing in
comparison to the future discomfort we all will face unless we begin to
elect leaders who will actually solve this problem.

Oh, Dave, you don't have anything to apologize for.
It is a good thing that we live in a land of freedoms!
:) As such we have the opportunity to express them
as you well did. Treehugger or not - Excellent post!
