Hi Folk: I spoke with someone from the Auburn, SRA, yesterday afternoon about the bears.

 

They stated that they did not know about what had occurred, maybe some at the ASRA know but it was not told to other workers.

I don't know about bear behavior as I do about cats, but same advice for both:  Carry Bear Pepper Spray (Counter Assault, available online and at REI), and a non-collapsible knife.  Don't bother any wildlife if you see it, and defend yourself if necessary.
 
I've seen lots of bears here.  Saw 5 in one season on the Tevis trail.  Never a problem, just rode past them.  Like the cats, they are getting more bold due to the encroachment and heavy trail use, but don't seem any more aggressive than in the past.
