Another case of one has to check each state's laws. For example, a number of years ago for reasons that are not obvious to me, the state of WI decided that if you accept any compensation for hauling a horse you are a commercial livestock hauler and thus are subject to all of the rules and regulations there unto pertaining. This definately included even paying for some of the fuel expenses. As soon as you are commercial, your regular vehicle insurance does not cover you.
