[RC] elytes - rnbianchi

<Beth, my "favored brand" of electrolytes is still just plain old
<food. Electrolytes are not innocuous (yes, you CAN overdose, or misdose), and furthermore, until a horse has some base on it, you really have no clue if it actually NEEDS <additional elytes.">

Boy Heidi, don't let a certain vet here on the east coast hear you say that. I got reamed at a recent ride for not electrolyting enough. I had given the pony I was riding several days worth of elytes pre ride and one dose the morning of the ride but he wasn't drinking well so I didn't want to give him any more. This vet yelled at me that I should have been giving much more to force the pony to drink! I was shocked to say the least, first of all because he was yelling at me and second because of what he was telling me. I explained that I'd read not to give a horse electrolytes unless they were drinking, to which he told me I was reading the wrong things and that I obviously didn't know what I was doing. Jeesh!
