[RC] Another horse welfare story - Marinera

When we moved to our present home, a neighbor two miles away had a very thin horse in his pasture. He gave us permission to ride through his property which we appreciated.  I did not want to do anything to jeopardize that  privilege, but I finally called him and said I noticed how thin his horse was and wondered if it needed some dental attention. He said the horse had had his teeth floated.  Over the next few months the horse became even thinner.  Then I did not see him for several months and I was appalled at his appearance the next time we rode by. I told Bob I was going to buy the horse.   The  next day I called my vet, told him I planned to buy a starving horse and asked him what sort of feeding program I should put him on.  He asked the location and I told him.   He said he had euthanized the horse that morning and that the horse had gone down and not had the strength to rise. I asked him if he starved to death and he said "Yes."  He was a chestnut with a blaze and four white stockings and I never see a chestnut with those markings that I don't think of the one I could have saved if I had acted sooner.  Bruce's story had a much nicer outcome than mine.  Julie
