Re: FW: [RC] Fwd: [RC-Digest] Vol: 03.4848 - Barbara McCrary

Let's see....
Maggy Prince won Swanton Pacific in 1984 - 10:42
Becky Hart won in 1986 (the first FEI ride and North American Championship) - 9:36
Teresa Cross won the 1986 non-FEI ride - 10:09
They were all riding 100 miles.  The trail has undergone changes over the years, due to property ownership changes, trail obstructions or damage, perceived dangers, etc.  After 1986, finish times went up noticeably.
In 2006, the riding time of the winner was 11:08.  Riding times of other years were sometimes quite a bit more.

Speed things up? I doubt it is the lack of fast horses in the US that is the problem, more like the

lack of fast courses! The course record for the Vermont 100 is 12 hours and many of the best have tried

to break that. Weather conditions have rendered even our "fast" courses so difficult that obtaining a CoC

under the old standard of 13:20 was impossible (Biltmore, Pine Tree, Fort Howes). So now the question is

where are the FEI rides to qualify in 10:40 going to be held?????

This is funny.  I might just have the ONLY ride in the US for FEI riders to do their CoC at.
