[RC] re: stirrups breaking/balance - Erin

I've never had a stirrup break during a ride, lucky me. Regarding the person who was talking about her learning to ride bareback, I can relate. I had a horse from age 8-16 and rode bareback much of the time. Yes I was younger and lighter then, but also riding bareback also strengthens your body in all the right places to allow you better balance and also of course you develop better balance in and of itself. For those of us (I speak of myself, as I have recently gotten back into horses at age 30) who rely on a 'secure seat' and stirrups from your saddle, might try some regular/frequent riding bareback riding to strenthen your muscles and sense of balance. Its a wonderful feeling to be able to confidently ride your horse bareback at a gallop and not worry about coming off (ah the days of youth, maybe I can at least get my former riding ability back someday!). And,.... especially if riding bareback..."if your head is worth protecting," wear a helmet. (You'll never regret wearing one but you COULD  regret not wearing it!)

Ahhh...imagining that irresistible "new car" smell?
