[RC] Horses having fun - L gin

Huumph-- ;p Rascal thinks having fun is picking up any kind of tool or container of items you put down near him while he is hanging around you by choice, he leaves the herd wehen ever people show up.. Fun for him is picking up sticks and playing sticks with Scout(whom he taught to play sticks with). This includes laying various size sticks up to about 8 feet on another horse or bobbing them up and down and lying them on the other horses backs.or playing tug of war with them with the other horse. Fun for Scout is picking up any object, feed scoops, hula hops or soap and coke bottles , buckets and scraping them up and down rhythmatically on the ground to hear the sound. Fun is pulling blankets off the stall wall and dragging them all over. Fun is not going over a tarp, but reaching down and biting it and dragging it....Fun is stealing anything human by both geldings and carrying it off., Fun is reaching over and untieing the lead rope when you are being taught to tie (but only at home, not at the trainers) Fun is unlocking the stall doors, just because the mare taught you too. Fun is taking all the buckets of the J bucket hook sand tossing them on the ground.(I hve new locking pin holders in the new barn) Fun is tearing down the fly bags you can reach. Fun is dragging the hose off the trough and playing with it and pawing it, Fun is turning the wheelbarrel over, cause you can , and stealing the shovel. Fun is heading out down the road most of the time, cause he likes to 'go out" (unless he is in a barn sour mode). Fun is taking the vets and trimmers tools, smelling their hair and butts. And real fun is pretending you are hot stuff and chasing everyone away from "your person, who is grooming you first". Fun is trying to knock the human off the ladder when they are trying to nail the roof on.
I know it's them having fun, because they are NOT well trained and obeying me!!!! Nor particularly afraid. ha, ha ha ;0)
Hey, Jody I have a mare who doesn't believe in fun---(she does open doors and gates, but she only wants to eat the other horses feed--she fits the eat, run, eat, watch for danger, call to neighbors horses, she does flirt, is that posssibly fun:p). ? ----I won't mind her doing what I tell her too for any reason, so why dont' we trade for a while----I'll teach yours how to have FUN and you teach her to do what you tell her-----

Jody Rogers-Buttram ...... . But, what is fun to a horse?

Fun ( I would think) is eating, sleeping and doing much of nothing with their
buddies.
Fun ( I would think) is running in the pasture, kicking up at one another.
Fun ( I would think) is never having a person sit on their back, never being
shod,
never having to have their teeth floated, or never getting stuck with a
needle.

Horses do the things that they do for us, because we have taught them to be
accepting and obedient. Not because they want to. If it was because they
wanted
to, we could show them one time, and they would never fail to do what we
asked.

Horses appear to enjoy theirselves because of excitment, and other factors.

Cash jumps in the trailer. Not because he wants to go to a ride, but because
he is not
wanting to get into trouble with me.
Rose stands like a statue for me to do anything to her. Again, because she
has been
trained to do just that.
Aries is so obedient that she will pull the buggy with no prior
training....because she is very
well trained to do what is asked of her.

The point is, FUN is not what is fun for us....but what is fun for them. And
I would bet that nearly
100% of what domestic horses do for us humans....is not fun for them.
