[RC] our recruitment - mrsd

CupThe year was 1968 and I was working in a mobil bank in Independence, Ca. a
bippity blond came in and cashed a check. Her name was Bev Reilly and she was
really into horses. She was entered in the Tevis Cup ride and was going with
Bill Thornburg. Bev didn't make it that year but ended up taking my wife,
Carolyn to help crew Bill.
We entered our first ride in 1970. Tevis Cup. Oh well..She made it to the
Thumb
& I was able to get to Michigan Bluff. We ended up sponsoring a ride for five
years and the second year 1972 saw Dona Fitzgerald, Her son , Sam Arnold, &
Hal Hall show us what enderance was about.

Carolyn finished Tevis in 1972 and the rest of the family followed/
To Date this great sport and life has led to 12 Tevis finishes. Many of the
riders drove 3/4 Ton Chevy's with a stock rack. Kicked the manure out & slept
in the truck bed.

Bernice Kalland was the winner & BC of our 50. 1975 That woman could really
ride.
