[RC] FEI - Leonard - Jay Randle

Hi Leonard and AERC members

Leonard, I have to agree with you here! The FEI rides here in Australia are also very much like our own AERA rides: that is, a technical and comprehensive test of horse and rider over the distance mandated. I'm sure that the FEI rides in North America are very similar to our rides and the European rides.

The desert racing rides that are being debated on Ridecamp are very much different, and although they are also FEI rides, they cannot all be lumped together in the same basket. The 'jockeys' who ride in the desert races in general would have a bad time here!!

Please don't make the mistake of labling only FEI rides as 'races'. Although there certainly are places given across the line, that is also the case in our AERA and your AERC rides too. So, literally, all of our respective rides are 'races'.

As Leonard suggests, I would like to see the rides that you are all debating to be called "desert racing", not "FEI rides".

I read your posts with a lot interest. But can I just respectfully tell you that you are debating wrongly about FEI.

You establish a direct relationship between fast flat racing races (let's call them desert rides) and FEI rides in general.

yOU MAY NOT INCORPORATE the european FEI rides in this category. Most of our rides in Europe are comparable with AERC rides and like in AERC competition, 99% of the riders care for their horse :
Aachen, Florac, Compiegne, Perugia, Castiglione, Barcelone... etc... I rode many rides in the US and I do not see much difference between the US rides and the European ones.

If you guys are against the endurance races taking place in the desert of the gulf, you should find another name for this type of endurance.
