[RC] Greatest Gifts In Life - D'Arcy Demianoff-Thompson

What a FANTASTIC gift!  It is also a gift that comes with age.  Don't you think?  I know as a much younger person, in High School, I truly thought the world was to be taken seriously - every day of my life!  As you, Barbara, a very dear friend, Vicky, gave me a gift - when she said, "D'Arcy you are going to die of a heartattack, stroke, or seizure...lighten up!"    She had given me a Proverb to read every morning when I woke up.   It took me many more years to truly grasp what Vicky gave me.

Dance as no one is watching.
Sing as if no one is listening, and
Live every day as if it were your last.

    -Irish Proverb

Well, unfortunately, she was the one the died after suffering from an brain tumor at the age of 19!  With or without realizing it, Vicky, left me with the greatest gift in life.  There is not a day that does not go by that I do not think of my dear friend Vicky.  Whether she intended it to be by design or not - I don't know.  I just know that one must never take oneself too seriously!  When I am at my worst moment in any given day.   I think of Vick's smile from ear to ear when she was going into surgery!  It is the same smile I think of when someone really upsets me!

One can never be too sure who one is talking to in this vast open world of internet communication.  So, one of the things that I have employed when I write an email or send an IM.  I imagine the audience that I am reaching is life in front of me.  That way, I can fairly well be assured that I am not anonymous.  That I am responsible for the words that I put down on computer screen.  Most of all I remember Vicky's smile looking back at me.

Therefore, I invite everyone to explore the possibilities that one can create in writing your words, as though, the person is right there in front of you.  Always wanting them to smile back at you.  As a matter of fact I'd like to know how many people today did all they could to bring a beautiful smile to someone's face!  If not a human being...most definitely a head nod of approval from your horse!

One of the greatest gifts ever given me (by a friend) was to not take life so seriously and to be able to laugh as myself.  What a relief!  I used to become hurt by some little thing someone said...now, if something is aimed at me, intentionally or not, I try to laugh at myself.
