Re: [RC] electrolytes and all advice - Truman Prevatt

Ah the OD - I've seen it when it was the the upper 40's at the start and didn't get above 75 all day with low humidity. I've also seen it when it went up to 97 with high humidity and afternoon showers. That year 10 people finished most within an hour of the cutoff. I was crewing that year and let me tell you while I hate crewing that ride - I'm glad I wasn't riding. At least we could get out of the steam bath. So which OD do you want - as if you had a choice ;-) . If I remember it wasn't too bad last year weather wise.

Just come do the OD !!!!!! It is a very doable trail. Of course, now that I say this, I for sure will have a curse on me and not finish this coming June !!!
I agree, a horse can do hills and altitude much better than a horse handling humidity.

I don't think "in general" they would do very well. MUCH easier
    for a horse
who has been trained in humidity to handle heat and climbs, than a
    horse
trained in mountains to handle humidity and the climbs. Even tough for
mountain horses to handle humidity and flat in MY opinion.

The canyons at Tevis can get humid at times, but nothing like I
    imagine OD
can be in June. And, this would sure be an example of what might
    have been
working at home, may not work at the ride with a huge change of
    conditions.

I'd love to give OD a try some day, but *I* don't do well in
    humidity. And
as far as the drop offs at Tevis, they are indeed, hard for some
    folks to
think about. But if you have a really wonderful horse, who handles
    that kind
of thing well, never takes a misstep, then they are not as much of
    an issue.
2004 I rode one who tripped a LOT, and THAT was not fun at all.
