Re: [RC] Credit for 50 miles - Don Huston

Hello Kat,
I definitely agree with you that a ride that is short on mileage is a problem and that is why I give whatever data I have to the RM and let them decide what to do with it. With all the problems that RM's already have to deal with I do not want to make things worse by bad-mouthing the mileage around camp. I just pass on my data as a resource for next time. Like all things in this world not all GPS units are created equal, some days have better satellites, some trails have deep canyons and trees, etc. That's why I plot my tracks on software and compare the results. I wish I could be at your new ride but my horse has something going on with an old splint that has started getting bigger X;{ x-rays aren't back yet. He's not off so if no chips or cracks show up then we will continue on our quest for dinner. "To Finish Is To Win" is our motto but we have been pulled a few times so our record is not perfect but.....we are undefeated for dinner. :-D

Personally, I am not happy to get credit for 50 miles if I know that I
have only gone 42. By sanctioning a 42 mile ride as 50 miles, the ride
manager has turned me into a liar, has made the AERC's records
inaccurate, and consequently makes the collecting of these records
meaningless.

I would be perfectly happy to do this 42 mile ride as an unsanctioned
trail ride (there are plenty of 42 mile rides that I can enjoy the
ride), but by telling me (and the rest of the world) afterwards that I
have actually done 50 miles takes some of the fun out of it.
