Re: [RC] More whoa needed - Dyane Smith

I think you've got a real challenge, Mike.  I have a horse who only did CTR, never raced for more than a minute or two on training rides, could often be ridden in a halter, etc.  Once in camp for lunch at a CTR, he almost pulled the trailer over (where he was tied with a buddy) because folks were walking their horses out of camp.  I never rode him in endurance because I figured I would die right at the start.  And I could have held him back for two hours and he still would have known what was going on.

Some horses are already competitive from birth and then you have one that knows the game.

Good luck.

That really doesn?t work on horses that have already been trained to race.  They may calm down on conditioning rides and trail rides, but come competition day, you?ll be right back on your fire breathing dragon.

If this was my horse I would not put *more*  bit in her mouth.  I would make long, slow trail rides fun for her.  About three months of this and then three more months of slow rides in a crowd, ie club rides, CTR etc.  Then I would leg her up and go do a 50 or more.  She needs to be retrained not restrained.  Patty
