Re: [RC] Trip info - Linda S. Flemmer

It's I68 - not I58 thru WV and MD. (Runs 4 miles from my house.) I68 has
some rolling "mountains" through western MD that are beautiful Spring thru
Fall. In the winter, it's a hairy drive if there is any snow forcast. It
definitely beats taking the PA turnpike that it parallels (20 miles or so to
the North).

If I were going to MD, I'd take 40 to Nashville, pick up I65 to
Lousiville and I64 out of Louisville and all the way to I79 then to I58
to I70. You are in Maryland at that point. We used to drive this way
from Annapolis to Western KY back when I lived in Annapolis and it was
the fastest and easiest way to go. With I58 it now even better.

First, I would definitely make 20 your alternate to 40 - not 10 as
it's WAY
south and not sure if there is lasting hurricane impact along 10.

That being said, I 20 around Dallas sucks at rush hour too -- and the
maintenance of 20 in MS and LA leaves a lot to be desired. And 20
leads to
Atlanta - need I say more?

I have done 40 from Nashville to the very end and it's fine, and
although it
does take you through the Appalachian Mtns, I don't' remember 40
being as
hairy as 70 through the Rockies. Then in Raleigh you pick up 85 or 95
to get
to MD. Oh and I did 40 across AR in Aug 05 and I didn't notice it
being all
that bad - boring but not a bad road.
