[RC] helmet discussion turning to question about vests - Mattie Allen

Hi RC,

I'm a lurker who's still trying to find my endurance mount.  Since everyone is talking about helmets and safety, I'd like to ask if anyone ever uses an eventing safety vest in endurance riding.  I have spina bifida in my L4 and L5 and broke my back a while ago (not riding...doing a backbend in yoga, oddly enough, because I didn't know I had spina bifida), and I just started riding again in the last year or so.  I worry about re-injuring my back and "walking on my hands" as my doctor and physical therapist warned me about when I started riding again; I do 90% of my riding out in the wilderness, and most of that is by myself in places where I don't ever see another human.  I wondered if a vest might help in the event of a fall out on the trail?

Thanks for any insight!

Mattie
