RE: [RC] 20 MT and Little Big Man - Alison Farrin

When our son was little, he was expected to die, initially by age 12, then they
extended it to age 18. Short of jumping out of a plane (it scares ME to death,
so I told him he had to be 21) he did everything under the sun that his little
body could take that he wanted to do. He wasn't expected to have the chance to
grow up and do it later.

In truth, none of us know if we will have the chance to grow up and do it
later. It is the capacity to seize life by the horns, no matter the
consequences that made our country what it is today. The same loss of this
capacity, eroded by encroaching on our personal freedoms by more laws and
restrictions, will eventually bring our destruction. Please let parents
continue to make those decisions for their kids.

Despite doctors expectations, that kid is 21, finishing his math degree,
working full time, and driving race cars on the weekends. He still comes out
to ride with his mom sometimes. I truly believe that he is alive because we
told him he could do anything he wanted that wasn't illegal!

Alison A. Farrin

Yes, they sure do, within reason, of course. It's that "within reason" that is
the issue.

Tell me, what is so terrible about a six-year-old growing for a couple of years
before starting into such a demanding sport? It's so easy for us to become
blase about the real demands and real dangers that come with endurance rides.
