[RC] boarding stable - Alice Yovich

I board my three horses at a barn with mostly dressage riders who will take
an occasional recreational trail ride (at a walk)with me. We all feed our
own grain and supplements and I've never known any problem with anyone
stealing feed or supplements. I liked what you said about putting up the hay
before the winter. I want to do this myself, but we have one person who
lives paycheck to paycheck and even if we had the space to put up that much
hay, she wouldn't have the money to pay for her own portion. We do have some
barn money from the full care boarders (we're mostly a coop) and she would
like to see that money grow so that the barn could purchase the hay in a
large quantity, but she wouldn't have to cough it up alone...I resist this
(and I'm the treasurer) b/c my horses don't eat the barn's square bales and
if we keep the money in the "barn fund" it doesn't end up paying our lease
and we end up actually paying more board so she doens't have to pay her own
hay money up front...anyway, I would love to be able to buy 500 bales of hay
or so at the beginning of the season instead of being stuck buying it now
when it's expensive in a drought year.
