RE: [RC] [RC] LD BC= BULL CRAP - Catfish Daniels

Sorry Matt - I see now what you meant. You're right - it's the struggle back and forth that's bull crap. I read your message the "wrong" way - but I got it now :-)

The struggle back and forth is bull crap.Thats what was meant. We pick and choose our rides. Some rides give awards for the top 5 in each weight division. So all rides should?Just an example. I could go on and on.Pick your rides and enjoy ,that was the point. I am sorry you didn't get it. You and Heidi seem to be the only 2 so far.

This LD BC thing - I just don't get the controversy at all - and why people
are so up in arms about this. A 25 mile fun trail ride is beautiful for
those who want to do just that. A day out in the boonies watching wildlife,
nature, and sharing the frienship and conversation with fellow riders.
Great - it's an option that AERC offers - and respects equally. But what in
the heck is the big deal about rewarding other 25 mile LD riders that choose
to ride more competitively and have gone through great extent of
conditioning and have taken excellent care of their horses that day? Why
not reward them? Winning a BC award, wouldn't that set a wonderful postive
example for others? Isn't BC about being rewarded for having the best
conditioned horse - one that has been properly taken care of on the trail?
And since many LD riders are new to the sport and some of them will choose
to "race" whether there is a BC award or not, wouldn't it be all the more
important to embrace the BC award and make it a special accomplishment -
showing what you could win if you ride responsibly, do your homework and
compete wisely - know your horse and take care of your mount??? And what
about all those people who will never be able to do 50 miles due to riders
back problems or other physical limitations that would like to have the
chance to compete - shouldn't they be offered some sort of reward for having
taken care of their mounts if they choose to ride competitively? And if a
"win" or a "BC" award remains nothing more than a personal accomplishment or
"self recognition", then why not put a big smile on somebody's face who's
gone the extra mile to earn that award?? I have seen some people on the LD
trails that are more than twice my age - and some of them just can't do 50's
for many, many reasons. If they choose to pay an entry fee and trailer all
over the place to an LD ride, rather than riding with their local horseman's
association group for free, I say they deserve a reward if they happen to
place in the top ten and have ridden that ride with all intentions of
winning BC. That tells me that their main objective was to take care of
their horse. I see it as something positive.
I can't believe someone would actually say LD BC = Bull Crap. Just my
personal opinion.
