Re: [RC] cribbing - aggiekris

My mare is a terrible cribber, but at this point it hasn't caused me any
problems, other than that it turns my stomach to watch. she's fine when
i'm riding her, but will crib on just about anything any other time, so i
keep a cribbing collar on her - there's two varieties i've used, but i've
heard they don't work on all horses.

In camp at rides she'll crib on the trailer if she's tied to it all night,
or water buckets, etc. - the collar just stays on her until i saddle up.
I've thus far experienced no health problems related to the cribbing -
i've had her for 5 years, and she's been a cribber for 4. We've done miles
upon miles of conditioning, but just started LD last summer. We have 200
LD miles, planning on our first 50 in March. So far so good.

If you got him, I would advise not stalling him near other horses who can
learn from him - that's how my mare picked it up. Other than that, if you
like him otherwise, i wouldn't let that stop you.

I am looking at a 12yr.old Arabian gelding who is an ex-dressage horse for
possible CTR. He is perfect in every way "but" he cribs. How or will this
affect this horse on a long distance ride? Is this horse worth pursuing?
thanks Laurie
