Re: [RC] [RC] Riding in NYC - Ranelle Rubin

Betsy,

The Swinging Bridge in CA is not that big a deal. It does not swing "that much" as it has huge cables..just as long as there is only one horse at a time on it....we ride there to train..this year, I shall be coming the other direction for Tevis..let the Tevis Gods look favorably on us..please...!

The trick is to get them across the bridge over the freeway!. I competed in a Combined Driving Event in Nebraska where we had to cross a bridge over an interstate. We worked for 2 hours for 2 days trying to get the horse to cross. We got him across each time but he was sooo terrified that I decided it was too dangerous to continue. And when I saw pictures and read accounts of the Swinging bridge on the Tevis trail, I decided my horse wouldn't do that one either.

Now, if anyone wants to 'test' their horse in more traffic and preparation for NYC trail riding all you have to do is ride the trails heading north towards Rocky River, Ohio. The Valley Parkway Trail will take you over a freeway and under a freeway....see what YOUR horse does when they see cars coming at them then disappear under them!
