Re: [RC] [RC] Tack colors Liz masters - Terry Banister

I use the same sidepull, in Beta. On two occasions over the past 5 years, I forgot to undo the tie to his headstall before unloading. He backed out of the trailer and hit the end of the bungee, and began struggling and panicking. I could not get near him to undo the line to the headstall, and before I could get to the front of the trailer to undo it at the other end, the poll strap on the headstall gave way where the holes fasten to the buckles. So the horse was spared further struggle and possible harm of the bungee popping him if I had unhooked the other end. All the brass hardware on the headstall held well. I just replaced the poll strap for $5 from Sportack, and the headstall was good for another few years ~ until I did it again. Replaced the same strap, and still use the headstall. Biothane may not break away so nicely.

I had a horse have his sidepull bridle get hung up on something at the hitching post at our place. The sidepull was custom made for me at Sportack with two brass rings on each side of the rope noseband. The horse pulled back violently and he broke the outer ring on the near side of the sidepull, as it was this ring that was caught. We still use the sidepull, minus outer ring, but the message below makes me realize that brass is a better choice for safety. Strong enough for general use, but will break under dangerous circumstances.

I like the color combos, but you use stainless hardware??? That is to strong. I get my biothane from sportack and they only use brass, they actually refuse to use anything different, because it is to strong and if your horse got hung up somehow, they could get seriously hurt. I never take chances so I am gonna stick with the brass.
