Re: [RC] [RC] insulation--horse trailer LQ - Lucy Chaplin Trumbull

Todd:
I did the entire living quarters in our trailer. ...If anyone is interested, you can check out my web site about it.

Oh my - that truly is spiffy.

For those of you who are less carpentry-oriented, I
did a similar (but much more basic <g>) thing to my
"poor-man's LQ":

Betsy:
My insulation is rigid. Is yours? What are you going
to do about covering the curves in the trailer and the interior roof
portions.?. My insulation won't bend without breaking, so I am thinking of
joining several smaller horizontal pieces together and inserting them.

I had the same problem - trying to figure out how to do the curved parts. The wall areas weren't so bad - I managed to curve a piece of styrofoam into the space and use plastic sheeting to hold it in place and stop it popping out - I think the plastic sheeting was sold as vinyl wall covering, or something - I got it at Home Depot. You can sort of see it in the pics (if not, and you want more info, let me know and I'll try and take better photos).

In the case of the roof in the nose, it was trickier. My
bed area has very little head-room, so I didn't want to just
flat-panel it in (which would have been the easy option). I
ended up using silver-foil bubblewrap stuff - basically those
screen-things you can buy to put in your windshield to protect
from the sun - cut pieces to fit (several layers thick) and
duct-taped in place. Not attractive, but does the trick for
now.

This winter I plan on insulating the floor (and the dog will
thank me) and hopefully installing a Wave-3 catalytic heater: (http://reserveamerica.campingworld.com/browse/skus/index.cfm/Outdoor-and-RV-Accessories/Maintaining-Your-RV/Heaters--Furnaces/Catalytic-Heaters/Olympian-Wave-3-Catalytic-Heater/skunum=19332 )
which I was going to mount on the wall and put the gas
bottle in the furthest back corner of my tack room and
run the lines through the wall.
