[RC] Breed duplications - Michael Maul

In response to:"I know the breed listed is the one the
owner chose when applying for an AERC # for the horse, but it's always seemed odd that there are so many duplications such as "half arabian" and "arabian cross," "foxtrotter" and "Missouri Foxtrotter," "1/2 mustang," and "mustang cross," "grade," and "other."

Laney,

I agree that some of these look like duplications. The breed list was never planned - it just grew. Grade and other though are *not* duplicates in my view. Other is for registered horses in breeds where there are only one or two competing.

If some volunteers would like to do the following - or suggest an alternative - I'd be will to work to clean it up.

The volunteers would have to

1. Decide which categories are duplicates.
2. Decide which category would remain
3. Get consensus that this is the right set of categories.
4. Contact all the owners of horses that are in the category
that would disappear to see if they have a problem changing
    their horse's category

I would provide the list of owners that the volunteers would have to contact.

I don't think we should change a category for a horse w/o the owners permission.

Once that's done - we would remove the selection for horses joining the mileage program that were decided to be duplicates.

I don't think this will be a huge amount of work but it's not small either.

I'll also need to get agreement from the office.

Any volunteers for this? Someone will have to lead and coordinate the effort if there is more than one volunteer.

Mike
