Re: [RC] diesel trucks-set up your priorities for now and in the next 5 yrs - Julie Gelderman

I have been happy with my fuel mileage. The little read-out (which I was told is pretty accurate) tells me that when I am towing heavy I am getting between 9 and 12 miles to the gallon and empty (if I keep my foot out of it), I am getting about 15 to 17. For a 1 Ton Dually, 4WD I don't think that's all that bad...agree? disagree?

I'm thinking about a brush guard, myself, but going to have to put it off
for awhile. Any time you go above 63 or so in the new Ram diesels with a
manual transmission, your mileage will go down. I tow at about 65 even
with all the newfound power, so can certainly go 63 to save a few bills
every time I tow. I get passed by rigs towing large horse trailers every
now and then. If they thing doing 80 in a 70 zone with 4 horses in tow is
safe, I'll let them believe that... and suffer the fuel bill.

There are options available for our trucks... I *think* GearVendors makes
an overdrive unit that will give the new manual transmission Dodge diesels
a better gear to get RPMs down at faster speeds... if a fellow wanted to
go that route...

Not sure which brake controller was installed but it works great. I
had been looking for an 06 in ford or dodge but none were available in
the candy apple red. As I will have this truck a VERY long time, wanted
it my way. I decided Ford was tweaking it's diesel a bit too much. And
yes, the equivalent in Ford was ten thousand more. I reset my mpg
button and cruising at 55 the mpg's are 20-21. After hitting the damn
deer, have some grill damage to fix. Found out there are now grills
with horses in them. Also need a brush guard of some kind. Have been
told there is a guard bumper combo that is colored to match the color of
the truck. I just don't want one of those ugly black ones.
