Re: [RC] mileage in 2006 -- low mileage on east coast horses - steelsidedown

Tee hee  -- a few reasons......

Lack of nearby rides, the closest ride to me is 5 hours away.  Admittedly I'm right on the coast, but I think my drive time is pretty average for most.

Scheduling, many rides in the Northeast Region and Southeast Region, within driving distance, are held on the same day/weekend.
i.e. this spring 2007 -
April - No Frills + Leatherwood, same day
May - Michaux + Hallelujah, same day

Costs get prohibitive with the travel too!  An average ride costs me $100 for the entry and $300 in gas!  Add in food, etc, thats about $500 for every 50 miles completed!

Trails, are very difficult.  Not whining, but in the East, everything that can be built on or farmed is, thus we are left riding in some pretty rough stuff (solid rock, rubbley rolling rock, paved roads with traffic or deep sand).  Not unusual to have many nicks/cuts and shoes ripped off, horses need more time off to recover between rides.  We are spoiled when we get to ride private property!  (JD's, Biltmore)
