Re: [RC] [RC] supersale @ neighpersay....Bob - steelsidedown

I enjoy receiving the messages about sales etc (how else would I know -- I DON'T check endurance.net weekely even, just daily ridecamp)

Horses, saddle, etc for sale -- its nice to get the little note that says "check the classifieds if you're interested in". Again I may well be interested, but don't check them on my own - If you want to sell to those like me, you'll have to get our attention. (And Steph's hardwork deserves more than that measley little $5 ad fee!)

My attitude is "I have a delete button" -- if its something I'm not interested in -- I'll use it (jsut like when topics are something I'm not interested in!) -- elsewise let the sale flyers roll!

The general (although not written:) policy of ridecamp is to keep it clear of commercial messages. New members often don't know this (and sometimes people join JUST to send a commercial message).

Generally, all commercial posts get a private suggestion re: the desire to keep commercials out. It doesn't always happen as sometimes I'm away from the gate.

Sometimes, a public message goes out. This is to make sure everyone knows of the policy.

Sometimes, like in the recent neighpersay post, I don't even worry about sending a message out. (as this was a going out of business kind of thing and it's the holidays .... I let it go)

With some, like Paddy:), it's just a hopeless cause. There is nothing that I've been able to do to get the point across... (although Paddy is MUCH better than in her early days!!:)

The REASON there is a policy is to make sure that the already large volume of posts which come through ridecamp does not bloom into a totally unmanageable flood of steam of commercial messages.

We've often tried to figure the best way for Steph's advertisers to get special deals out to the community w/o causing problems. Haven't yet figured the best way (but we're certainly open to suggests!)

There are a bunch of new things on the way which might make it easier to work with this issue.

anyway, that's the background as to why you sometimes see "don't put commercial messages in the stream" posts from me.

I KNOW everyone wants to know about the deals that might be out there! but my guess is that there would be so MANY that it would all get lost in the noise as all over our endurance tack vendor's announce THEIR price for a particular S-Hack under discussion ...

I'm open to suggests! (of list??:)
