Normal Texas hay runs in the low prices so many of
you are proud of right now. But, a drought, or other weather conditions can
effect any regions hay and produce crop. So, while it is Texas being hit hard
right now....never know, your region could be next year. We are having weird
weather patterns. Excess rain can mess up hay production just as much as no
rain. So, count your blessings if you have no hay worries, but realize, it could
happen to you too, and to think about a plan. My mistake was waiting to long to
put up the winters hay, so I am buying round bales instead of square bales,
and pitchforking it off the bales to feed. At least I can find hay, even if it
is expensive.
