We all start out with that intention, but anyone can get caught up in the "want to finish" trap, and go too far, too fast. There's even more to it than the "want to finish" trap that may affect the best of intentions. I discovered that I couldn't force my way through some physical limitations I had, no matter how much will power I applied. My own suffering overruled my ability to be responsive and caring for my horse. Thank goodness my horses were always well conditioned and trail wise - I had done my homework! - and were able to carry on with a dead weight on their backs. Until I I learned to take care of my own health and condition, I was a liability to my partnerships with my horses. I finally learned I had to think of myself first, and then on the ride I was able to be a better partner with my horse. =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Ridecamp is a service of Endurance Net, http://www.endurance.net.
