[RC] Re: [RC]?? Short History of US Endurance - Tom Sites
I also think it should be written, and also do not
have the time. A project lingering on for too long now has me putting
together Prose and Poetry for a hopefully summer printing. Teddy Lancaster
challenged me so i have to meet that challenge.
If its just AERC, you're right Julie, it should be
easier. I would offer to help on the early FEI and the GAHR (if its
included, and lots of moral support.
I am really impressed w/ the writing and
organizational skills of Kim Fuess and Karen Chaton. ts
I am going to beg out of making any major
contribution to this story. It needs to be written, but I am currently
involved in too many other projects to give it the time it deserves. However,
I will be happy to answer any questions if I can be helpful in that regard.
To be accurate, it will require a lot of inquiries by someone with a zest
for research if it is going to go back to pre-1955. If it is just going
to cover modern day endurance riding, it should be a much easier
project. Hal Hall would be a good one for early Tevis.
Phil Gardner and Kathy Perry for the founding and initial years of AERC.
Then Randy Eiland, Joe Long and ex-AERC presidents for the growth of
AERC. Then the multi-day concept which is pretty well recorded already
from the 1976 cross country race. From there you will have to find someone who
can document the introduction and growth of international endurance
riding. Matthew Mackay-Smith was in on the ground floor of this, I
believe. And then I think Maggie Price was instrumental in getting endurance
riding recognized by USET and FEI. I am really vague about some of this
stuff, but I really wish somebody would undertake the
project. Julie Suhr
