One thing that is sometimes overlooked: Some rubber-like girths are Neoprene 
and some are Poly Vinyl Chloride.  Lots of folk do not carefully make the 
distinction.

Poly Vinyl Chloride, that is not rock hard, has plasticizers added. 
Plasticizers are oily materials that soften the PVC.  The reason this is 
important is that some are sensitive to some plasticizers.  All plasticizers 
leach out of PVC (remember the cracked vinyl roofs on '70's cars)

The result is that a horse that is allergic to a PVC girth may not be 
allergic to Neoprene and vice versa.

Bottom line:  If your horse is allergic to a rubber-like girth you may want 
to try the other kind.
