Hi Bob, the "best" saddle is one that fits your horse well and you find comfortable.  Personally, I like the "paneled type" endurance saddles made by the Reactor Panel saddle company.  The "panels" move with your horse.  My advice would be to try as many saddles as you can (I would look for company's that have at least a two week trial time..and will help you fit your horse correctly (like Reactor Panel).

Ps, it also depends on what you are planning to do, and how old and what condition is your horse?  Paneled saddles are great also for allowing for growth spurts and a conditioned body.
