[RC] What your horse's heart rate can tell you.... - Chelsea Marsh

Hi, it's me again! I've got another question....
From talking to different people and reading different articles I've
heard suggestions that while training your horse you need to have a
couple of workouts where you do speed work and get their heart rate up
into a certain range. I was also told to take it slow with the speed
work
and gradually up how long of periods you do it for. I've been doing a
couple of those and some 25 mile training rides which we take slow and
do it in about 4 hours. However I can't seem to get my horse's heart
rate up. It seems that by the time I'm out of the saddle and checking
her heart rate she's down into the 50's, for both the training rides and
the "speed work". Am I doing something wrong? To do any good do I need
to get her heart rate up to a certain amount? Just how important is
their heart rate and what can it tell you?

Thanks for the help!
