Re: [RC] Diesel Prices - Lucinda Carpe

The really sad part about all that (now I show my age :) ) is that a regular person working for min. wage in a pricey California area in 1971 ( I know because I lived there and did it!)  could actually afford a nice apt and car and pay for the gas and all to go to work and I did buy my groceries for 15 a week and threw whatever I wanted in the cart with no regard for price because I was only 17-18 and my rent was 145 and my phone 5-10 and gas and electric about the same and I filled my little car for 5 bucks and life was sweet..
It makes me really sick how expensive everything is!
Well I don't work for min wage anymore but geez everything is harder now! i rack my brain to figure out how to conserve and that gives me a headache to!

E TX it is about 2.50 +/-.  The gain is in an engine that is more long lasting than gasoline and the mileage won't be cut in half when you tow.  Not that easy to just translate numbers but need to be aware of proportionality.  Back in 1969, two adults could be fed with $15 a week.  Gas was .20+/- and would go down to ten cents during price wars.  In 73 we had to line up for gasoline and the price skyjacketed due to the mid east mess.  In 1978, we complained when gas was 46 cents a gallon and I quit buying butter when it hit over a dollar a pound.  A fancy house in the late 60's was $40,000, now that same house is work 3-4 times that amount.  We have fancy electronncs that are cheap and easy to obtain.

I do question when the prices take sudden jumps but there are people out there betting on the amount of fuel being used and therefore the major price jumps.  Sort of like gambling on how cold the winter will be.

The fact that Exxon has made record profits is a hint that we are being used by some unscrupulous businesses.  IHMO
