Re: [RC] Humor me.... - M Paul latiolais

Clothing, as well as other gear, really is dependent on where you are. Out here in the Pacific Northwest, it is really a challenge. The climate out in the Oregon/Washington/ Idaho desert is quite different from the weather in the valleys between the coastal range and the Cascades, which is quite different from the weather along the coast.

At the Oregon 100 in September of this year, it went from 18 degrees to the 70's and then back to the 30's, all in one day. THAT'S a challenge. As such my favorite outfit to date includes wearing summer light weight tights under winter fleece lined tights, adding leather schooling chaps to that, on occasion. ON top a t-shirt under a cotton shirt under a light weight wool shirt under a down vest with a waterproof jacket on top. Insulated bicycle gloves and a cap under my helmet on cold days. I wear roper horseshoes, good for hiking, with a pair of cotton socks under boot socks. Of course the layers come off over the day and come back on again as the sun goes down.

I'd like a hi-tech shirt, but nylon is tricky. You don't know how well it will breathe until you wear it.
