RE: [RC] to blanket or not - heidi

A wet blanket is WAY worse than no blanket at all under such circumstances.  Even summer coats will fluff up a bit in response to cold, and will help to insulate somewhat even when wet--but a wet blanket just mashes them down.

Heidi

Several years ago we went out west with our FL horses. We were headed
for ID. We stopped at a horse B&B in Rapids City SD. This was June - our
horses had their summer coat. We put them out in the pasture with what I
thought was water proof blankets. It was cold but dry when we left.  It
started raining - this was the second week of June we are talking about
here.

Well the blanket on my wife's horse was old and was not longer water
proof and by the time we got back he was wet and cold. In fact he was so
cold that his muscles were so tense that his gut motility was low and
yes he coliced.
